Lauren’s Pharmacist Picks: Black Friday Wellness & Beauty Gift Guide

Expert-led picks for skincare lovers, wellness enthusiasts and the people who are impossible to buy for. 

Black Friday can be a great opportunity to pick up something you already love, invest in a skincare routine or find a thoughtful gift for someone who is notoriously difficult to buy for. But with so many offers around, knowing where to start can be half the battle. 

As Millie’s in-house pharmacist, I’ve brought together a selection of wellness, skincare and self-care picks worth considering this Black Friday - from everyday nutritional support and clinical skincare sets to Irish beauty brands and little luxuries that make a lovely gift. 

Whether you’re shopping for Mam, Dad, a sister, a partner, a friend or yourself, the aim is to find something that suits the person receiving it. I love sets because I always find there is so much value in them, as well as being presented beautifully – but you have to find the right one, and, without tooting my own horn – I think there are some gorgeous finds below!  

1. The pharmacist’s wellness pick: Revive Active Original 

Revive Active Original — an all-round supplement and an easy gift idea* 

If you’re looking for a practical gift for Dad, a brother or a friend - especially someone who is difficult to buy for - Revive Active Original is a great one to consider. It can also be an option for someone who wants to review their everyday supplement routine. Nothing says ‘I love you’ like a gift that says you want them to be well!  

This is a useful option when you want to give something practical that can become part of someone’s everyday routine - or when you want to take a closer look at your own nutritional habits.

2. Clinical skincare sets worth investing in

A skincare set can be a lovely way to discover a routine or replenish products you already enjoy. The best choice depends on your skin type, concerns and current routine, or that of the person you are buying for, so I have suggested some options below, including details on who they are best suited for.  

IMAGE Skincare Daily Essentials Kit – Mineral Hydrating SPF 30 — a routine-led skincare gift 

This is worth considering for someone who wants a coordinated skincare set rather than choosing individual products one by one. The inclusion of SPF 30 makes sun protection part of the routine, which is an important everyday skincare step all year round.  

Lauren’s take: This is a really good gift direction for the person who enjoys skincare and would appreciate a set of products designed to work together. This is a great routine for anyone looking for a simple daily skincare routine that includes a cleansing step, hydration (from SPF and serum), brightening (serum), antioxidant support (serum) and broad-spectrum mineral SPF protection. 

SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic & Ultra Facial Defense Kit for Dry + Ageing Skin — Lauren’s personal pick 

I use these products myself, and I like the pairing of an antioxidant serum with daily sunscreen. Unfortunately – we all having ageing skin, so don’t let the word ‘ageing’ make you think of it being only suitable for more mature skin. I’m in my twenties using it! The important thing is choosing products that suit your skin and introducing active products sensibly, like every second day to begin with, for example. 
 
SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic combines vitamins C and E with ferulic acid. Vitamin C is an antioxidant ingredient used in skincare to help protect against environmental oxidative stress and improve the appearance of uneven tone and visible signs of ageing. The sunscreen complements the routine by helping protect skin from UV damage. 

Who might like it: Someone interested in antioxidant skincare, uneven tone or visible signs of ageing, particularly if their skin leans dry and they want to pair a serum with sunscreen. 

Who might prefer another option: Someone with oilier or blemish-prone skin may prefer a different vitamin C formula and sunscreen combination. The Silymarin CF kit below is worth exploring for that skin profile. 

Lauren’s take: I like the logic of pairing an antioxidant serum with SPF. Vitamin C is a wonderful antioxidant and brightening ingredient, but can make the skin slightly more photosensitive or more sensitive to sunlight, even if it is dull out. We all need an SPF daily anyway to protect from the damaging effects of UV rays, so this is the perfect pairing, in my opinion!  

SkinCeuticals Silymarin CF & Oil Shield UV Kit – Premature Ageing — an option for oilier, blemish-prone skin 

If your skin is more oily or blemish-prone, this kit may be a better starting point to explore than a formula designed for dry skin. Silymarin CF is formulated for oily and blemish-prone skin and combines antioxidant ingredients with a focus on excess oil and the appearance of pores. The accompanying sunscreen completes the daytime pairing. 

Lauren’s take: The most useful skincare set is the one that matches your skin. If you are unsure whether a vitamin C product or a particular sunscreen suits you, ask the Millie’s skincare team for advice before investing. 

3. Irish skincare discoveries 

Doctrine Three-Step Matcha Power Peel — for the person who loves trying something new 

Doctrine’s three-step Matcha Power Peel is a lovely option to explore, because it combines a spa-like ritual you can incorporate into your routine two or three times a week, with skincare results. It is really unique in that it combines a cleanser, with a lactic acid peel, followed by a barrier support cream – so it is like a mini facial at home!  
 
Lactic acid makes for a gentle, yet effective peel, as it exfoliates by dissolving the bonds between dead skin cells to reveal smoother, brighter skin.  

Lauren’s take: I have used several products from Doctrine and just find them to be so calming and spa-like, whilst also leaving my skin feeling soft and cared for. This is a really different kind of skincare gift for someone who enjoys exploring their routine, rather than simply replenishing their everyday cleanser or moisturiser. I also love that it is an Irish brand!  

4. Skincare for life on the go 

Skin Formulas The Mini Essentials Kit — for the busy person, traveller or handbag enthusiast 

For someone who is always on the go, a mini skincare kit is a gorgeous gift to receive. This is the perfect compact routine ready for weekends away, travel or days when you are moving from one place to the next.  

Lauren’s take: This is one for the person who appreciates practical, well-presented products and wants their skincare routine to travel with them. In my opinion, this is perfect for someone who travels frequently for work, or just always seems to be going on their next trip!  

As an Irish brand, Skin Formulas is also a lovely homegrown, female-founded skincare brand focused on quality, and products that really work. This is also just a great introductory set if you have never tried the brand before and want to try their products before purchasing full-size versions.  

5. The Irish wellbeing gift edit 

Sometimes the most thoughtful present is something that encourages someone to slow down, take a little time for themselves and enjoy an everyday ritual, and these are some of my favourites.

I find it deeply nourishing, and there’s good reason to look for omega-rich plant oils in skincare: essential fatty acids are important components of the skin’s lipid barrier, which helps keep moisture in. Ingredients such as jojoba oil, cocoa butter and glycerin also help moisturise and soften the skin. This is the perfect gift for when you don’t know what to get somebody – who doesn’t love nourished hands with a hand cream and body oil that feel and smell amazing? 

6. The complete skincare routine 

Environ Skin EssentiA Skin Set with Cleansing Lotion — for Mam, a sister or an Environ fan 

If you are shopping for someone who loves skincare - or someone who has been talking about starting a more structured routine - a complete set can is a beautiful and generous gift. This Environ set is worth considering for someone who already knows and enjoys the brand, or who is interested in building a routine with guidance. 

Environ uses a vitamin A step-up approach, with different levels intended to help users progress gradually. The right starting point depends on the person’s skin, experience and tolerance. Someone with particularly sensitive skin may need a gentler introduction; the Millie’s team can help discuss whether AVST Gel or AVST 1 is a suitable starting option.

Buying for a teenager can be tricky, especially if you are not sure what they already use. A simple-yet-effective skincare bundle can be a useful place to start, particularly for someone who is beginning to build a simple routine. 

For most teens, skincare does not need to be complicated. A gentle cleanser, moisturiser and daily sun protection are sensible foundations; stronger actives are not automatically necessary just because they are popular on social media. 

Lauren’s take: This is a really practical gift for a teen who is interested in skincare, and suitable for skin that is sensitive, acne prone, or skin that is without any presenting issues, which is what I like about it. Ideal in winter when cold weather calls for a protected skin barrier!
