Skincare Specialist Edele’s Beauty Travel Essentials
If you’re still awaiting your holiday of 2023, or are lucky enough to have another break planned, we have just the thing for you. Our Skincare Specialist Edele has recently been on her travels and is here to take you through her absolute must-haves when travelling from skincare to haircare and her favourite products in between.
While they’re not all travel friendly sizes, these are the items I just can’t live without. Particularly as I was checking in a bag and could bring full-sized products with me, these are the ones I can’t be without.
These are the products that work for me, and I found them super helpful when I was away. It's a bit of a mixed bag, not just skincare, but also some body care products, some hair care and even makeup.
Caudalie Vinosun After-Sun Repairing Lotion
My first product is a body product form Caudalie, the Vinosun After-Sun Repairing Lotion.
While it may be an after-sun lotion, you can also use it as your normal body lotion after your shower so it’s a product that I’ll continue to use now that I’m home
Fantastic for repairing, hydrating, cooling down the skin after the sun, it’s got great water retention which is really hydrating. On top of that, it’s also got coconut oil which helps to moisturise the skin. I always leave my skin slightly damp before applying to help with the hydration, but it’s also great to help prolong your tan. Plus, it’s vegan friendly too.
Environ Body A, C & E Oil, and Environ Body Derma Lac Lotion
I’m so happy I brought this body duo over, the Environ Body A, C & E Oil, and Environ Body Derma Lac Lotion. I really wanted to keep up with my overall whole-body routine. I spoke about this before in my favourite product round up because I have skin texture and marks on my skin. I find if I step away from this for any length of time it’s almost as if I’m going back to square one with the dryness and Keratosis pilaris on the back of my arms. The pair together also creates a fantastic base for any time I fake tan and helps to prolong the colour as well.
Sculpted By Aimee Connolly Second Skin Dewy Foundation
Time to change it up a little bit! I don’t talk a lot about makeup products, as usually I’m all about the skincare - but I found this so easy to use on holidays. It blends well and sits beautifully on the skin. It has additional SPF, and while it’s not ideal to rely on this SPF alone, it’s a good addition to have. The vegan formula is 100% mineral and leaves a gorgeous glow without the full coverage feeling, perfect for holidays!
Avène Thermal Spring Water Spray
Another amazing product, Avène Thermal Spring Water Spray. One amazing feature is that it can be used on all skin types, even on babies from six months. What people may not realise is that you can also use this on nappy rash, on sunburn, on any heat on the skin. I kept it in my beach bag all holiday long.
A nice mist if you’re feeling too hot, you can use it on your pulse points and on the back of your wrists or neck to really help cool you down. Fantastic for rehydrating the skin, priming the skin for makeup, and even setting your makeup.
Redken One United All In One Hair Treatment
On to haircare! People tend to forget about protecting their hair while they’re in the sun and dipping in and out of the pool. One great tip to create a barrier to protect your hair is to first rinse your hair with fresh water before applying a leave-in conditioner. You can then either plait your hair or leave it in a bun and once you’re done in the pool just wash and treat your hair as normal. You then have a barrier between your hair and then UV from the sun and the chlorine from the pool, voilà!
This treatment from Redken is a fabulous one as it’s got your heat protection, colour protection, and protection against UV filters.
Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Conditioner
Another great hair product, the Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Conditioner. If you lighten or bleach your hair like I do, this is the perfect pick for you. It works to intensely hydrate the hair and repair any breakages. When bleaching and lifting colour from the hair, the bond can weaken so it’s all about strengthening the hair and using this as a system to help strengthen the hair by up to 56%.
Environ Skin EssentiA AVST Moisturiser 1 & Environ Suncare RAD SPF15
For my skincare I kept it quite simple because I didn’t want a long routine, but I also wanted to keep my skin barrier healthy, protected and supported.
Environ’s AVST 1 Moisturiser is a great option as it has your A, C and E Vitamins and it can be used both morning and evening.
I also packed my Environ RAD SPF: which is full of antioxidants, and I was able to use this both on my face and on the kids. The antioxidants and the SPF work alongside each other to help keep the skin super protected. Always remember to reapply your SPF throughout the day when you’re at home in Ireland and especially when on holidays.
Murad Environmental Shield Essential-C Day Moisture Broad Spectrum SPF30
I packed a couple of different facial SPFs with me, but this is another one that I absolutely loved. Murad Environmental Shield Essential-C Day Moisture Broad Spectrum SPF30 contains Vitamin C so it’s almost like your serum and SPF together - perfect for when you’re in a hurry to start the day! The Vitamin C helps stimulate collagen and elastin, which is also very good for anyone who has dry skin while the SPF protects your skin from the UVA and UVB rays.
Perfect if you want to just use one product in the morning rather than both a serum and an SPF.
WILD Aqua Case and Fresh Cotton & Sea Salt Deodorant Starter Pack
Neither skin nor hair, but an essential, nonetheless. The WILD Deodorant Starter Pack in Fresh Cotton & Sea Salt. Sleek and stylish deodorant applicators are reusable and made from aluminium and recycled plastic. While looking great, it’s also a very handy product, with a gorgeous scent and left me with no irritation under my arms.
Iconic London Triple Threat Mascara
Another product that I’ve spoken about before, but I just have to rave about it again! I try mascaras quite a lot because I have small, hooded eyes. While I may love the initial effect of a mascara - hallways through the day I will always end up with panda eyes because of the mascara transferring on to the skin. This is now the only mascara I will buy, and I’m currently on my third or fourth one. It’s a great product with a small comb like wand that ensures zero clumps, never transfers, and lasts perfectly all day long.
On holidays, keep your skincare simple but try to pack a product with antioxidants and protection for the morning, and something super hydrating at night. Don’t neglect your body care and remember hydration and protection is key!
