Brunettes with Attitude - Adding Autumnal Tones

Brunettes often think blondes really do have more fun (at least with their hair anyway) but brown does not mean boring! Introducing Autumn tones to the hair can be done in a multitude of ways and it is actually quite an easy look to maintain at home. Warm tones around the face help keep us looking bright eyed and bushy tailed throughout the winter months, while cool tones catch the light and give icy, reflective shine. It is very much up to personal taste just how much you embrace this, of course.

Subtle hints of honey or latte are enough for some people, (try Moroccanoil Colour Depositing Mask Champagne for warmth, or Kevin Murphy Cool Angel to neutralise warm tones) while others may embrace the chill with cooling Redken Colour Extend Brownlights Shampoo, some will jump into the most vibrant coppers and deep reds, or even pinks and apricots (look into Kevin Murphy Autumn Angel for a peachy glow).

Even though the darker days are rolling in there is light at the end of the tunnel to beautiful hair. The general consensus amongst hair professionals that I’ve been chatting with is, that given the current circumstances, people are requesting long lasting, low maintenance colour services. Considering that over 90% of the global population is either naturally brown or black haired I say let’s embrace it, and work nearer to your natural colour, enhancing it with multi-tonal lowlights and reflective glosses. Consult with your stylist about which colour palette is most flattering on your skin-tone and embrace hot copper, delicious chocolate, or creamy coffee hues, and have a little fun with it.

I myself have introduced an apricot tone to my baby-lights, and I love the boost it’s given to my complexion, and my mood. If colour is not for you, do not despair, because shiny locks in beautiful condition can give just the same sensation. For stronger, healthier hair have a look at the super effective Kerastase Resistance range. It gives deep, long lasting strengthening results to weakened, sensitised hair and seals split ends, leaving you with glorious shine and minimal breakage.

If it’s hydration you’re seeking why not try Davines Oi Conditioner. This is one of those products that will give you immediate results, manageability, and intense shine. It is rich and luxurious and a little goes a long way. It is a permanent fixture in my house because it does exactly as it says it will, it gives a Hollywood finish but won’t weight your hair down. An absolute gem!

Natural texture is a massive trend for A/W 2020 too, which is at least one positive we can take away from this disastrous year. I mean, it is still fab to get a stunning blowdry, don’t get me wrong. I’m just saying feeling comfortable in your own skin is important, and there’s no time like the present to experiment with it. If you have particularly unruly hair go for maximum effect with your homecare, as in cleanse, treat and style your hair with high quality shampoos, conditioners, and leave-ins. One product won’t be enough to subdue unmanageable hair, but using the correct selection of homecare will help you no end. The Aveda Nutriplenish Hydrating Light Moisture range is so conditioning on the hair. It hydrates and gives control to the hair, smoothening down the hair shaft. It fights humidity and provides you with gloss and shine. Even better than that, it is cruelty free and vegan, so what’s not to love?

Curls are a little genre of their own really, which require moisture, protein and a gentle hand. My advice with be treat your primary concern first before trying to treat the curl. What I mean by that is, if you feel your hair is damaged or dry, make that concern your primary focus for your shampoo and conditioner/mask. Then shape your curls with a leave in conditioner and styling product, I love Alfaparf Semi de Lino Curls range and Kevin Murphy Staying Alive and Motion Lotion. With everything that is happening around us it is easy to be remiss about your hair, and what makes good, but when you do make yourself a priority just remember, relax and have fun.

And don’t forget guys, if there’s anything I can help you with don’t hesitate to get in touch.
