6. Eat a healthy well-balanced antioxidant-rich diet.
Studies suggest that eating plenty of anti-oxidant rich foods, mainly fruit and vegetables, soy products, beans, omega-rich products, flaxseed and many others can help prevent skin damage caused by the ageing process. Keep in mind that it is possible to provide everything your body needs to produce collagen by eating a balanced diet. By including some of the foods mentioned above, you will soon begin to see a difference in the quality of your skin tone, as well as have an improved sense of overall health. I am a strong believer of looking after your skin from inside out, and have proved it on myself ;)

On the contrary, sugar and other refined carbs accelerate ageing. How? If you persistently eat a high-sugar diet, then as a result, the collagen and elastin (responsible for the skin’s plumpness and ability to bounce back when stretched) will become more rigid, so it will become easier for wrinkles to form and stay.. According to Dr Ross Perry a high-sugar diet reduces the quality of the collagen in the skin, too. ‘There are different types of collagen, known as I, II and III, and for healthy looking-skin you need the correct blend of all of these,’ says Dr Perry. ‘Sugar encourages type III collagen to become type I which is more brittle. Consequently, the skin breaks down and looks thinner and more wrinkly. It also becomes more prone to the damaging effects of the environment and UV rays.’ A zero sugar diet may seem like an impossible feat to some. The good news is, a low sugar diet can be equally effective if you learn how keep your blood sugar levels from spiking. Start by avoiding the obvious refined sugar culprits: sugary fizzy drinks, desserts and artificial sweeteners. Then, you can move toward reducing intake of alcohol and carbohydrates, which can cause glucose levels to jump, eating more fresh produce and less packaged items. Incorporating more green vegetables and lean protein sources like chickpeas, lentils and fish will keep your glucose levels stable, to properly fuel your body without the damaging effects of sugar. So kicking a fair bit of sugar out of our diet is another bundle we can throw into our train.

7. Exercise most days of the week.
Exercise stimulates the formation of collagen because it’s a protein that forms most of the tissue in tendons, ligaments and bones. Collagen is, as we now know, also responsible for supporting the skin, and its production slows the aging process by countering the formation of wrinkles. Producing more collagen makes your skin thicker due to the increased numbers of collagen fibers present. And thicker, skin looks healthier, stronger and more youthful. Exercise also improves circulation and boosts your immune system giving you that internal glow :)
8. Cleanse twice a day
What’s inside counts, but caring for your skin on the outside is equally as important. The American Academy of Dermatology asserts that “gently cleansing your skin twice a day is one of the best things you can do to counteract premature aging.” Throughout the day, your skin is exposed to a variety of environmental factors & toxins like dirt and pollution that keep building up on your skin if left unattended, damaging your complexion. Smog and exhaust fumes are known to accelerate the ageing process so add another “good twice-daily-cleanse-routine bundle” into your train.
You may think it’s too late for you. Your train is halfway through its journey or even further. No panic. Even people who already have signs of prematurely ageing skin, can affect the look of their skin by making little changes. For instance, by protecting your skin from the sun, you give it a chance to repair some of the damage. Stopping smoking even at a later age, hugely affects the skin also! This list goes on.
So instead of complaining, start adding your bundles and throw them into your train, sit back and relax. It will be a long journey!
