What is a sheet mask?

Sheet masks are Face shaped sheet fabrics soaked in a nutritional serums, packed with skin-loving ingredients such as Hyaluronic acid. Sheet masks are normally made of materials such as fibers, gels and papers.

Sheet masks are generally used once and always individually packed which makes them quick, easy to use and convenient.

How to use a Sheet Mask

Sheet masks differ from your normal face masks, in that, all you have to do is remove it from packaging, apply to the face, leave on for the allotted time,  take off and pat in the extra serum left on the skin. While a traditional face masks you will need to wash the product residue off before carrying on with your skincare routine.

You would normally leave a professional face mask on for no longer than 15 minutes, all the active ingredient will have penetrated the at this point. I think the reason they’re so popular is because they are so easy to use you can apply one while you are cleaning, reading or watching TV and you don’t have to bother washing it off after taking the mask off the skin.

How does a Sheet Mask Work?

Each sheet mask is salt in a concentrated serum, normally packed full of ingredients such as a hyaluronic acid and vitamins. These ingredients tend to be water-based, as they distribute quicker throughout the skin while the Fabric material prevents these ingredients from evaporating.

Benefits of Professional Sheet Mask

Professional sheet masks would be classed as a sheet mask that is sold in a professional environment like a skin clinic or salon and not over the counter like chemist and department stores.  Professional Sheet masks will contain professional grade ingredients.

Sheet Masks are a reasonably priced, convenient, quicker way of giving your skin precious hydration but if you asked me if it is a substitute a professional skin treatment or peel I would say NO, but they are a great at-home way to prolong the effects of your professional skin treatment.

You will not get long lasting benefits to skin from sheet mask but you will get a soothed, hydrated skin which tends to last anywhere from 1-3 days which can make them a perfect pick up for the weekend.

What are Typical Ingredients you tend to find in Sheet Masks?

Common ingredients that you are likely to find and sheet Masks tend to start with a base of aloe vera and seaweed and have ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamins, minerals, Green tea extract and red wine extract.

My Favourite Sheet Masks and Why

Image_Skincare_Hydrating_Sheet_MaskIMAGE I MASK Hydrating Hydrogel Sheet Mask. This is a great mask for delivering instant hydration to dry, dull, depleted skin. It is really refreshing and revives a thirsty skin with hyaluronic acid‘s and mineral rich waters. It is quick and easy to use, and you will find there is always enough liquid solution left in the package to pop on your neck, chest and back of hands. Best not to waste any!!

Image have an Anti Aging version also of this mask and both are as popular as each other. Personally if you going to pay anything from €5-€10 for a sheet mask, please spend your money wisely on a professional mask, the difference in ingredients is just crazy, I know its not in every case but there is no comparison in quality of ingredients let alone quantity.
