Learn MoreAlthough there are some very specific ways to care for wigs, hairpieces, and extensions, which your own specialist will help guide you through, many of our professional haircare offerings will help you to maintain the condition and finish if your 100% human hair additions at home. Listed below are a handful of our favourite haircare options to make your life a little easier when you care for your 100% human hairpiece at home.
Opting for silicone free haircare can help reduce product build-up on the individual strands of hair, which can cause the hair to reject nourishing ingredients, such as caring oils, and conditioners. Product build-up can also leave the hair looking dull, lacklustre, and effect styling due to its heavy nature. Using Olaplex will keep your hair strong, repair damage, add shine, detangle, and enhance softness. A beautiful option for day-to-day care and weekly treatments, especially if you like to colour and heat style your hair frequently.
Hairpieces are so flexible and high quality these days, that you can treat a lot of them quite like an average head of hair and use multiple layers of hair products to create your desired texture and finish. Unfortunately, if these products are left to dwell in the hair, it can make your wig dull, lifeless, and difficult to style.
Again, we want to stick with a sulfate free cleansing shampoo that will deep cleanse the hair without stripping the colour or damaging the hair itself. A suitable option for this, and one of my favourite deep cleansers, is Davines Solu Shampoo. A naturally based shampoo, it is sulfate free and will leave your hair feeling lightweight and super clean. The hair will also become more receptive to whichever conditioner you use afterwards, but I find it is a great time to use a nice, hydrating and reparative hair mask like Davines NouNou Mask.
This is a lovely option for day-to-day care, it is ideal for wigs and hairpieces with drier or coarser hair types. If you want the hair to feel softer to the touch, and help to protect it from colour fade and weathering Pureology Hydrate is sulfate free, nourishing, detangling, lightweight, residue free, and 100% vegan friendly. It also reveals the most beautiful shine and the Pureology Colour Fanatic spray contained in this Christmas Gift Set will also protect your hair from temperatures up to 230 degrees Celsius.
L'Oreal Steampod with Free Pureology Colour Fanatic Spray
For anyone who likes to heat style their hairpieces, into sleek sexy styles, or beachy and Hollywood waves, the Steampod 3.0 is an amazing option. It is gentle on all hair types thanks to its technology and manipulating the hair with steam. It is also heat adjustable and far more lightweight than its predecessors. The steam technology will help prevent your hairpiece from drying out, fights off humidity, and reveals the most beautiful shine. This particular bundle pairs the Steampod with the gorgeous Pureology Colour Fanatic Spray heat protector, which we mentioned above, that will work to detangle, protect, hydrate and strengthen your hair with zero residue results.
As the hair in your wig or hairpiece no longer has direct contact with the scalp, it misses out on the benefits of natural hair oil. You can help to replace that by using a lightweight residue free nourishing oil, such as OWAY Glossy Nectar. Working a tiny amount of this through the mid-lengths and ends of your hairpiece can help to protect from split ends, add shine, detangle, and rehydrate tired tresses. It will also work to fight the effects of humidity, will add gloss and definition to your style, and can be applied to both damp and dry hair. This naturally based product is organic, sulfate free, paraben free, biodynamic, and extremally lightweight, but achieves lush and nourishing results.
As we mentioned, each wig and hairpiece will have its own care needs, but this short guide will help you to navigate your options, and if we can be of any help please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
