Learn More“Our body creates 200 million skin cells per hour, and it doesn’t make them from creams” explains Lorraine Perretta, head of nutrition at specialist skin supplement brand Advanced Nutrition Programme™.
The nutrients we get from our food, plus those from supplements are the building blocks of healthy skin – and what we need most varies throughout our lives. Many of us happily construct our skin care regimes based around age, but we don’t often take the same approach when it comes to tailoring our diets and supplement programmes.
Discovering what vitamins and minerals can help support skin health and boost wellbeing, plus what foods you can find them in, is a smart way to support your skin and body. Combine that with the benefits and boosters offered by targeted supplements, and you can tailor what you eat to help best support your body at every age.
Lorraine Perretta shares her tips and advice gained from over 30 years’ experience in the industry, demonstrating how to tailor your diet to your age for optimal skin health as well as overall wellbeing.
16-30 years: Overall wellbeing and problem skin support
Eat consciously. And by that, I mean, understand how foods impact your health. Think about what you’re eating and don’t just eat randomly. You should aim to eat some protein every time you eat, and only have sugary foods as a treat. Eat a rainbow coloured variety of fruits and vegetables every day. Your body is young and healthy, but it is never too early to start taking supplements. During this time your skin may be experiencing problems and challenges, supplements can help support a clear and flawless complexion.

30s: Collagen activators and antioxidants
From the age of 26 the body appears to become less efficient at fighting free radicals (caused by factors such as pollution and UV exposure) and also starts to reduce collagen production. By age 30 it’s time to focus on antioxidant rich foods, as well as a supplement programme that contains added support.
Look for supplements which feature these types of ingredients to help support normal collagen production such as vitamin C and zinc, as well as additional minerals and vitamins with antioxidant properties.
Recommendations: Daily skin health essentials: modern multivitamin, (such as Skin Vitality), an omega 3 with 6 (found in Skin Omegas+), antioxidants found in Skin Complete or Skin Ultimate and beneficial bacteria such as Skin Youth Biome™ or Skin Clear Biome™. For problem-prone or stressed skin, Skin Accumax™ as a targeted skin solution supplement.

40s – Beneficial Bacteria
Our digestive systems become less efficient as we age, so by our 40s we’re not as good at breaking down the foods we eat. As a result, nutrients and vitamins don’t absorb as well. To help counteract this, firstly, chew foods really well. The advice is to chew each mouthful 30 times before swallowing. Beneficial bacteria such as those found in Skin Youth Biome™ or Skin Clear Biome™ can help support.
Introducing supplements to your routine is particularly essential at this time. Multivitamins, omegas, vitamin D, antioxidants and vitamin C are key basics.
Recommendations: A good multivitamin, (such as Skin Vitality), an omega 3 with 6 (found in Skin Omegas+), beneficial bacteria such as Skin Youth Biome™ or Skin Clear Biome™. For problem-prone or stressed skin, Skin Accumax™. For ageing skin, our award-winning Skin Ultimate pack of five supplements.
50s – Safeguard your skin and support your energy levels
One of my supplement secrets and favourite anti-ageing ingredient is Coenzyme Q 10, often written CoQ10. Although our body can make this nutrient itself, we become less efficient at producing it as we age and by age 50 most people need a bit of help. CoQ10 is important for energy at the cellular level, it also helps reduce wrinkles.
Advanced Nutrition Programme’s Skin Ultimate supplement system contains a specialist CoQ10 capsule, which also includes French maritime pine bark extract for radiance. It also features a range of other supplements, including vitamins A, C and antioxidants prime to support ageing skin.
Bones and cardiovascular health are important, so add a supplement to support your bones. It’s not just calcium that’s important here, you will also need magnesium, boron, and vitamins D3 and K2 from multivitamin.
Recommendations: A good multivitamin, (such as Skin Vitality), an omega 3 with 6 (found in Skin Omegas+), beneficial bacteria such as Skin Youth Biome™ or Skin Clear Biome™. For ageing skin, our award-winning Skin Ultimate pack of five supplements.Shop Skin Ultimate here.
60s + - All of the above!
If you’ve been doing all the above, you should already be feeling half your age! But it’s never too late to start taking your nutrition seriously. Get started by incorporating all the advice in the above ages. A common concern for some in their sixties is thinning and fragile skin. This is due to the natural ageing process which slows down collagen levels, slows down skin cell turnover and depletes the amount of moisture-boosting hyaluronic acid in the skin e.g.: some people in their 60s have zero hyaluronic acid. We recommend including hyaluronic acid and ceramides to your supplement and topical regime to help support fragile skin. Our award-winning and patent-pending Skin Moisture Lock™ features hyaluronic acid and ceramides in a multi-tasking softgel format to strengthen weak skin.
One skin concern which cascades all age groups is problem-prone skin which can be triggered by internal changes including stress. Millies currently have a special promotion on our patented formula Skin Accumax™ supplement which is acclaimed worldwide for its ability to clarify complexion, support skin health and boost skin confidence.
